More Bad News on State Budget Legislators Ponder Deferrals, LAO Warns Governor’s Plan Cuts K-12 Funding There were several new developments on the budget front in Sacramento – most of them discouraging news for financially-battered K-12 school districts. —On Wednesday, the Assembly Budget Committee rushed through legislation (ABX8 5) that would authorize three additional deferrals of apportionments to K-12 districts – totaling up to $2.5 billion in all – with the deferrals affecting apportionments originally due in July 2010 to be deferred by up to 60 days...
